ArcheAge

Formerly developed under the code name Project X2, ArcheAge is a next generation fantasy MMORPG developed by XL Games and led by the designer of Lineage, Jake Song. ArcheAge is also some of the first few MMORPGs in the world developed using CryTech’s CryEngine 2.

Recently XL Games revealed some new screenshots of ArchAge and released some new information and teaser on their official website, one of those teasers appear to be a poem written by Jun Min Hee, a renowned novelist in Korea responsible for the acclaimed fantasy novel “Children of the Rune”.

According to XL Games, Jun Min Hee will be writing the scenario for ArcheAge so we can expect a good story from the game. The game is currently scheduled for a June 2010 Closed Beta Test in South Korea and an official release on the same year.

    @blubber
    ich glaub nicht, dass ein cryengine 2 kostenlos wird xDDD

    Free2play(kostenlos is das falsche wort) ging auch mit der unreal3 engine und die gabs ja auch nicht grade umsonst.Von der engine her kann man heutzutage absolut nichtmehr auf das Zahlungsmodell schließen.Einfach abwarten was für ein Zahlungsmodell sie verwenden.

    I don't particularly like Lineage but this game seems cool. I'm curious to see how they're going to implement a good story into an MMO.

  • tron

    I don’t think story means much to an MMO player and i seriously doubt they read novels. Most MMO players are casual in nature and only like a story that doesn't get in the way of game.

  • Gamer

    I've played more MMOs than most people have ranging from 20-30. This MMO will most likely fail. The Cry Engine is good and all but the problem with this is that the system requirements will be so high that a lot of people who wish to play (considering it is a free MMO) will not be able to. This will turn the community into people with high end computers with elitist attitudes. This will contradict the point of free gaming as the elitists will be the only ones playing and they will have no one to rage on besides themselves. :(

    Ye, i think you got a point there.
    Games that are meant to be free attracts people with low budget computers aswell.
    If they can't play the game, then only the ones that are willing to pay for games anyways will play it.
    Resulting in that they got 2 choises.
    1. make the game so awesome that it beats all other mmorpgs that you pay for.
    2. lower the graffics.

  • CryTeK

    You guys would be right, but you aren't.
    Hardware is developing at an exponentially faster rate than software. By the time this game hits the open markets (2011 or later) your average consumer will have already adapted to the hardware req without effort, and your upper level gamer will be buying the latest hardware designed for the CryEngine3 games in development. (There are a few already.)

    Also another thing that may be big by then is Web Server farms for running Web OS's more efficiently distributing more powerful hardware.This would also remove this problem.

    Lastly, it is inevitable that games will keep requiring better hardware, unless that is if you would like the level of development to stay the same for eternity and to never see, what would be, amazing Next-Gen tech games.

    wow that looks cool :) now let’s wait and see the gameplay :(

  • GamerisDumb

    Sorry, but this is dumb logic. Computer hardware is moving so fast today, that almost any computer should be able to smoothly run a CryEngine 2 game (I think the latest CryEngine out is 4). Also, do you know anything about the CryEngine? It brings very good graphics with smooth and non computer-hogging code. It will not take a top end computer to run this game, far from it actually.

    P.S. – Showing how you believe all people with high end computers are elitists, only demonstrates how inadequate you feel yourself. Just so you know, the VAST majority of pc gamers have decent enough computers to run most of the latest games.

    If U can run AION, U can run this too.
    And hardware problem???>>> not to korean;;
    They change and upgrade their computer everyday…..
