Destiny Development announces new sci-fi MMORPG with controversial name.
Destiny Development has announced a new free MMORPG by the name of “City of Transformers”, ironic considering it has nothing to do with either City of Heroes or Transformers (other than the Quintessons reference in the game’s backstory). The name choice is likely a marketing stunt intended to spark controversy and generate publicity for the game (they’ll probably be hearing from Hasbro’s lawyers pretty soon).
There are no “Transformers” in the game, but you do get to wreak havoc in some mean-looking mech suits, which is a plus in my book. Other than that, the game looks pretty much like your typical free MMORPG, featuring features we all know and love (or dread).
City of Transformers features 6 classes, 11 professions, 80 abilities, 50 “Transformers”, and spans across 21 game zones. You play as humans with mech suits, the “Transformers” in the game are pet-like robots you use to boost stats, and not what you think.
“City of Transformers” (makes me giggle every time I say the name)’s closed beta is coming this month and the game is expected to launch later this year. For more information, check out the official website.
