Virtual world set to go online next year.
RealU’s free MMORPG Otherland is planned for a spring 2012 closed beta, RealU and Gamigo told IGN in an interview earlier today. Being developed by RealU and jointly published by Gamigo and DTP Entertainment, Otherland is a sci-fi MMORPG based on Tad Williams’ popular novel series of the same name.
Otherland is set in the near future and after the events of the Otherland novels, where humans have access to the “Multi-Verse”, an immersive virtual online universe made out of many unique virtual worlds. Otherland’s gameplay will be based around its unique narrative structure and players will get to experience “their own individual stories within the Otherland universe.” As players play the game, the world will “change dynamically around them during the course of the game. ”
Otherland has been in development since 2008 and the game is expected to enter alpha testing by year’s end and closed beta testing sometime next spring. The game is set to launch in 2012 and will be available in three languages – English, German and French. For more information, check out the official website.
